Pros and cons of Lost Treasures of Infocom app for iPhone and iPad

Lost Treasures of Infocom app good for

Please sell this in the Mac app store. Im a (very longtime) Mac developer and I would help you port what you have over to the Mac for free. This would be so much better because: keyboard support, the ability to play the game in one window and have the map open at the same time in another. I purchased this product in 1993 for the Mac in the form of "Lost Treasures of Inform I & II" and then I bought the whole thing again in the late 90s bought on a CD with the games on it. I also used to drool over these games in the 1980s at "Software Etc.". I was a kid and couldnt afford them. I did play a bootleg copy of Zork I for the Apple ][ around 1983 and a pirated copy of Leather Goddesses of Phobos a bit later. Both of the packages I bought in the 90s were for the Mac, but obviously it was pre-OS X so youd have to run them in an emulator today, or there is a way to extra the playable game and run it on a Z-machine. But thats really more work than Id be up for when wanting the play. Plus, I love having the companion docs for the games. So a modern MacOS X version of Lost Treasures of Infocom would be amazing. I think I bought Lost Treasures even more times than I have purchased the album "Los Angeles" by X (cassette, vinyl, CD, remastered CD, and finally iTunes), Id be happy to buy this one again on Mac.
The keyboard is in the iPhone 5 style, too large for the screen and interferes with the aesthetic. I like the app overall, good job. Missing some favorites, as others have noted, and the map for Suspended is not usable.
This is a great collection of Infocom games but it is NOT complete. Missing are the understandable why. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, as the Douglas Adams estate own it, Missing is, The Journey Begins, not sure why this is not in the collection. It would be a more complete collection to include that one. I like the fact that there is an option to buy the invisible clues that came with the games and the art work of boxes are awesome. Also there is scan of the "feelies" that came with each game and that is also awesome. There are maps of the games with help, if you like text based games then this collection of Infocom games is. MUST buy
Some suggestions... 1. Please make this app 64-bit so we can continue to play in iOS 11. 2. Add 12.9" iPad Pro support so it scales nicer 3. Add the iOS 10 keyboard (or let us pick 3rd party ones) 4. It would be great if we could custom name our saves instead of using just a number... Please look at Frotz for iOS to see how they do it. Much more intuitive. 5. Add iCloud support so we can play seamlessly between devices. 6. Please update with a new collection to include: Beyond Zork Zork Zero Bureaucracy Hitchhikers Guide Nord & Bert Journey Sherlock Shogun Arthur
It finally downloaded! Anyway, you can tell they put a lot of work into this its got the manuals, maps and even pictures of the trinkets you get with the game. Wow. I am seriously impressed. Im upping it to five stars simply because they obviously put a ton of effort into the games and trying to get them to run mobile properly. If your not into text adventures then dont get this. If you are! This is the bomb. Seriously. I bought em all. I will have just as much fun reading the manuals as playing the games haha. Get it if you love IF
This is a nicely put together app for text based adventures. I bought the whole package too. It would be nice to see future updates, with more adventures (for those who purchase the full version).

Some bad moments

If you enjoyed these classics in the 80s and feel its time for some oldschool reminiscing, youve finally come to the ... ... wrong place, at least if youre blind. The iPhone includes a screen reader which makes it accessible to blind users. Unfortunately, LTOI was designed in such a way that it is completely unusable with this technology. So they managed to take something entirely textual and blind-friendly and turn it into something that doesnt work for us at all. Epic failure.
As a visually impaired user, I mostly played text adventure games when I was growing up, and the games by Infocom were some of my favorites. When I heard that these games were now available to play on an iOS device like my iPod Touch, I instantly got excited and downloaded the program, only to find that its totally unusable with the built-in screen reader, Voiceover. None of the buttons speak, so it was impossible for me to start the included Zork I game, read the documentation, etc. I hope Activision will include accessibility enhancements in a future update so that everyone can enjoy these classic text adventures.
Activision did a great job on porting their games to the iPad. Hitchhikers Guide is available thru the Gotz app along with all the Zorks. Too bad one app does not rule them all.
I cut my gaming teeth on Infocom games and the effort and attention to detail that Activision put into this app made the $9.99 purchase a no brainier for me. Heres hoping they add the missing titles - Beyond Zork, Zork Zero, Hitchhikers Guide and Nord and Bert. Id gladly pay extra for these. Thanks, Activision!
...and until theyre included (within reason) I cant give it a full 5 stars, even though this app IS excellent and deserving of a 5-star rating. Now, I dont think anyones really expecting to see Shogun, due to some legal issues (although if it were to get included at some point, feelies and all, that would be worth well over 5 stars. Too bad 5s the limit). Ditto for Hitchhikers (even though its how I and many others came across Infocom and text adventures in the first place), and I guess not including Bureaucracy or even Sherlock is kind of understandable for the same reason. However, those issues are the only conceivable reason not to have Nord And Bert in the collection, and thats a stretch at best. As for the rest, except for technical issues, which could be resolved, there seems to be NO reason not to include them. Leaving Arthur and Journey out seems pointless enough, but excluding Zork Zero and Beyond Zork is flat-out INEXCUSABLE. I am expecting to see at least a few of these titles added at some point in the future, sooner rather than later. Hopefully, they will also be free to those who already bought the full library, or at the very least drastically reduced in price, and even then only if the library goes up in price and the cost just makes up the difference. As for the feelies, some of them are hard to see well, and some new scans of the game packaging would be useful (although its kind of amusing to see where price tag stickers have been scratched off and things like that). Other than that, some of the pages in the instructions are in the wrong order. Everything else in this app is pretty much prefect, though, and everyone who likes puzzles or good writing in games, or adventure games in general, should get this.
Incredible job! Its great to see these games again, and even better that such a good translation to touch was designed for it.
